A-LIST PROPERTY: SCENIC RETREAT DESIGNED BY JIM HAMILTON

Province_Line_Road_120_Angle Exterior

Ask anyone where to dine in the darling river town of Lambertville, New Jersey, and they are bound to mention Hamilton’s Grill Room. Known for its unique flair, creative dishes, and vibrant atmosphere, it’s the perfect reflection of its founder, the late Jim Hamilton. What might not be as well-known, is how colorful and accomplished was the life of Mr. Hamilton, and the legacy he left in the art, culinary, and design world.

Province_Line_Road_120_Great Room

Armed with both a Brown University and Rhode Island School of Design education, and an advanced degree in Fine Arts from Yale University, Jim Hamilton designed everything from showrooms for Oleg Cassini and windows for Tiffany and Co., to stage, film sets, and scenery for Hollywood, Broadway, and musicians.  His firm, Design Associates in Lambertville, created scenery for the original productions of Hair and Jesus Christ Superstar, and built sets for David Bowie, Tina Turner, The Rolling Stones, as well as the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus.

Province_Line_Road_120_005

In the 1980’s he opened Jim Hamilton & Company, an architecture firm that designed restaurants, homes, and commercial projects, including this A-LIST property, 120 Province Line Road in Skillman, New Jersey 08558.  A visionary architect, Jim Hamilton designed this scenic hillside retreat with a range of spaces from a grand hall to quaint hideaways. As one of his few from-the-ground-up designs, the Hopewell Township house eschews rules, embraces whimsy and showcases the talents of many local artisans.

Province_Line_Road_120_003

Double hung windows and native stone bring tradition to a modern exterior with stained glass entry. Antique barn wood in the living room is immediately striking, while cleverly repurposed vintage fixtures and hand-painted moldings quietly reveal themselves. Natural illumination is a vital feature of every room and, thanks to a light well serving as the interior’s nexus, it pervades every corner. With a double range, sinks and Sub Zeros, the kitchen is for serious cooking surrounded by company in the open office and family room. Upstairs, 6 bedrooms offer window seats looking out over 15 scenic acres. Hand-painted tiles decorate baths, including that of the master floor with sundeck, office alcove and stairs to a reading loft.

Tucked between the area’s finest country clubs and nearby schools, his legacy lives on in this extraordinary property, just 5.5 miles to downtown Princeton and two miles to Hopewell Borough. Property available for preview this Sunday, May 20th, from 12-2pm. LOVE WHERE YOU LIVE: OUTDOOR ENTERTAINING AT A MOMENT’S NOTICE

Screen Shot 2016-05-26 at 9.33.10 AM

We proudly premiere the first video in our “Love Where You Live” Lifestyle Series!  “Outdoor Entertaining At A Moment’s Notice” was filmed at our incredible listing at 58 Rosedale Road in Princeton, in collaboration with author and lifestyle expert Maureen Petrosky.  As we head into Memorial Day Weekend, take 90 seconds to pick up some quick tips for hosting an impromptu, fun-filled evening with friends and neighbors. Click here to watch “Love Where You Live: Outdoor Entertaining At A Moment’s Notice”.

As the weather warms up, neighbors and friends slowly creep out of hibernation.  It seems that all of a sudden our sidewalks are buzzing, gardens are blooming, and inevitably impromptu outdoor gatherings emerge. These types of parties are my favorite. With very little effort you can host a fun-filled evening perfect for savoring the season.

Food & Drink A-List Essentials

Keeping a well-stocked pantry and assortment of drinks on hand is always a good idea, especially if you have a busy household. My culinary “must-haves” for entertaining on the fly include: a baguette or two in the freezer, an assortment of crackers, cured meats and cheeses, pickles and pickled veggies, dried fruits and nuts, assorted chocolates, graham crackers and marshmallows. Don’t overthink the drinks! Keep a few bottles of red, white and bubbly wine on hand, and simply dress up a pitcher of water with sliced citrus or cucumber for a perfect outdoor sip.

Fun & Games

My back porch and backyard have lots of options for games — and not just for the kids. Adults like to have a little fun, too!  My A-List Essentials to keep on hand for outdoor entertaining include a couple of cases of mason jars (one for drinks, and one for catching fireflies), a large rope for tug-o-war, a basket of flashlights for flashlight tag, and a container of sidewalk chalk for hopscotch, tic-tac-toe, or even checkers (using rocks as your checkers).

Sweet Endings

Gathering ‘round a fire pit to roast marshmallows or lighting sparklers are a couple of ideal ways to end an impromptu evening with friends.

And so you see, with some simple food and drink preparation, a few fun games and other tricks up your sleeve, outdoor entertaining at a moment’s notice really can be a breeze. It doesn’t take a lot to enjoy a little bit of luxury wherever you live.

A-LIST PROPERTY: It’s “LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION!” at 42 CLEVELAND LANE

Cleveland_Lane_42_001

42 Cleveland Lane, our listing in Princeton’s Western Section, has made A-LIST news quite a bit these days: first with our recently featured Holiday Trunk Show, when designers from Pottery Barn, Pottery Barn Kids, West Elm, and Williams-Sonoma transformed the house for the day into a holiday gem, and then as part of our special feature “Spectacular Kitchens”. And now it’s making headlines again, and this time it’s Hollywood style, thanks to Princeton High School graduate CeCe King, the writer and co-star of the “The Broken Ones”,  a feature film currently shooting at various Princeton landmarks including 42 Cleveland Lane.

page33

HOLLYWOOD COMES TO PRINCETON: If the man on the left looks familiar, it might be because he is actor Charlie Bewley, who played a recurring role on TV’s “Nashville” as the love interest of Hayden Panetierre. If the woman on the right looks familiar, it’s because she is Cece King, who grew up in Princeton and has come back to town to shoot a film she has written and in which she co-stars. “The Broken Ones” has been filming around town, most recently at the Peacock Inn and a house on Cleveland Lane. *Photo and caption courtesy of Town Topics.

As reported in the Town Topics, “The circular driveway fronting 42 Cleveland Lane was clogged with vans on the unseasonably warm Monday of this week. Between the columns of the 194-year-old house’s graceful front porch, young cast and crew members of The Broken Ones, a movie being filmed at several locations in town, were carting in equipment as they prepared to shoot a scene.”

Cece King, the daughter of Princeton interior designer Judy King, described the film to Town Topics as “a 24-hour love story… a coming of age drama, kind of like Blue Velvet meets Garden State.”  Ms. King’s co-stars include Charlie Bewley, of Nashville fame, and Constance Shulman, of Orange is the New Black.

Congratulations to Cece King, and the entire cast and crew of “The Broken Ones”, from all of us here at Callaway Henderson Sotheby’s International Realty. We wish you all a successful journey for the film and we’ll stay tuned!
